I hate onedrive! Have lost so many photos because I cannot upload photos from my phone properly and it deletes photos.

I have a PC with Windows 11 installed. Normally, photos that I take with my phone are uploaded to OneDrive and are automatically sorted into files based on month under the Camera Roll folder. However, that function is not working properly. If I go to the OneDrive app on my phone, current photos appear under the "Pictures" tab. However, if I go to Camera Roll and then the month (in this case, "08," there is nothing there. Same with the Camera Roll folder on my PC. I read that I should clear the cache but that didn't solve the problem. So, the photos are being uploaded to OneDrive but not appearing in any folders.

Hello Scott Giorgianni
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
I understand that you are experiencing issues with OneDrive not saving your pictures correctly. Let’s work together in finding the best resolution to this issue.
For me to better understand the issue, I’d like to ask a few questions:
- Are you using Microsoft 365 Personal/Family or Business?
- What is the version of your OneDrive?
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try to resolve the issue:
- Check if the OneDrive app on your phone is up to date. If not, update it to the latest version.
- Check if the OneDrive app on your phone has permission to access your camera roll. To do this, go to your phone's settings, select "Apps & notifications," find the OneDrive app, and make sure that it has permission to access your photos.
- Check if the OneDrive app on your phone is set to automatically upload photos. To do this, open the OneDrive app, go to "Settings," select "Camera upload," and make sure that the "Camera upload" toggle is turned on.
- Check if the photos are being uploaded to OneDrive from your phone. To do this, open the OneDrive app on your phone, go to the "Pictures" tab, and see if the photos are there.
- Check if the photos are being synced to your PC. To do this, open the OneDrive folder on your PC, go to the "Camera Roll" folder, and see if the photos are there.
- If the photos are not appearing in any folders, try resetting the OneDrive app on your phone. To do this, go to your phone's settings, select "Apps & notifications," find the OneDrive app, and select "Storage & cache." Then, select "Clear storage" and "Clear cache."
We look forward to your next response.

I have the exact same problem. I just installed the OneDrive app on my iPhone 11 Pro (iOS is up-to-date) and although all of my photos show up in the Photos tab, some of them are missing in the Files>PIctures>Camera Roll tab. I've done all the troubleshooting steps listed plus uninstalling/reinstalling the app (twice). I'm subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal/Family.
I'm currently using wi-fi at home but I did enable "Upload Using Cellular Data" anyway since I want to have photos backed up real-time while I'm out and about.
I also do not use iCloud Photos so I don't have the "Optimize Storage" open. In the Photos app setting, I have "Keep Originals" selected. In looking at the photos in the Camera Roll folder, I do see that .heic files are being saved.
Well, my happiness was kind of short-lived. While the pictures are being saved to camera roll, when I open that folder the pictures are not showing a preview and the green bar at top which normally is there for an instant takes awhile and lags. The images are all the same, it's that Microsoft image of a blue mountain, blue sky, and white moon, with the upper right corner looking like a turned page.
This was happening earlier, when I posted about the Camera Roll, but I figured they were related. So I did a factory reset because the Geek Squad person at Best Buy couldn't figure it out, and it first it seemed to solve the problem, but clearly it's not. :(
(Note: I can click on any one image and it loads correctly into Photos, and using the scroll arrow can go through the other pictures. But I need to see previews. I thought for sure the factory reset would solve it, since that's a last resort.
I uninstalled/reinstalled the OneDrive app, and now it is working. Thanks!
