How to configure the Search Box web part to display results on a custom search results page

Description of Issue:

I'm creating a new SharePoint Site that should function as a Knowledgebase, containing articles that can be searched for using a Search Box web part.

I've created a Search Results page, configured the site settings to use my custom results page URL, and I've inserted a Search Box web part on the home page.

I cannot find any documentation on how to link the Search Box web part to my new Search Results page.

At the moment, when you enter anything into the Search box, and hit enter or click search... it does nothing.

The Search Box web part has almost no settings to configure.

Is there some kind of special web part that must be inserted within the Search Results page in order for the Search Box to send results there?

Details:

New Site with Search Box web part

  • I created a new Site
  • I created several new Knowledgebase Articles in the form of individual Pages within the new Site
  • On the Home page, I inserted a Search Box web part.

Search Results Page

  • I followed this Learn.Microsoft article to, Configure a results page.
  • I created and published a new page and named it Search Results.
  • I went into Site Settings > Site Collection Settings > Search Settings.
  • I chose the option to Send queries to a custom results page, and I added my Results page URL
    • I tried using either format:
      • /Knowledgebase/SitePages/Search-Results.aspx
    • It did not work with either.

In my mind, it seems like I have a Search Box set up, but I can't find the settings to point it to display results on the configures Search Results Page.
How do I do this?

    Dear Dolmetscher007

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you

Based on your description, you can't seem to connect the search box with your custom search results page, I don't seem to have encountered a similar situation in our test here, you can refer to my test steps as well as screenshots first:

First of all, I also created the Search Box web part, and it had to be a classic page: About configuring the Search Box Web Part - Microsoft Support

Serge Box, Kswebpat is shown in the image below:Change settings for the Search Box Web Part - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn

Then I followed the steps in this document to set up the Search Box Web Part:

Once the settings are complete, the custom search results page will open after searching for content.

I noticed that you've already set up a search results page, so I'm not going to demo it anymore.

In addition to that, you can also try PnP Modern Search:

We look forward to your reply. Thanks for your cooperation.
