I am trying to embed a PowerPoint file into my Word document. I am doing the steps found online, but I am getting this error message:

"The program used to create this object is PowerPoint.  That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.

To edit this object, install PowerPoint or ensure that any dialog boxes in PowerPoint are closed."

I have version 16.75 for Word and PowerPoint. When browsing the file, it only gives me excel and word options, but not any PowerPoint options. I think that is the issue of why it won't let me upload it. How would I be able to add it?

As an alternative to embedding your PowerPoint file, place it in the same folder as the Word file. Then create a hyperlink (Insert>Link) in Word to the PowerPoint file. Word should create a relative link which will still work when the pair of files are moved to a new computer.

Object Linking & Embedding [OLE] is an aspect of the Windows OS which never has been supported by Apple. It is permitted between Word & Excel and either can be embedded in a presentation, but PowerPoint files cannot be linked or embedded.

BTW: It won't make any difference for this reply but your cited version of Office [16.75] is significantly out of date. If running macOS 11.x the version of Office should be 16.77.1: If running macOS 12.0 or later version 16.81 is thr current Office build.

Meaningful error messages! MS have been in this game for nearly 50 years, and they still haven't grasped this concept. A great deal of time would be saved if the long winded error message they provide was instead accurate, and simply stated "OLE is not supported in Mac". Or, of course, their documentation was functional....
