Why can’t I edit my word documents on android or iOS app

Hello

I can’t seem to edit any of my word documents through the word app (or office 365) on either my android tablet or iOS phone. I can still edit and change them on a desktop though. I often need to edit and send on the move, which is my problem.

All files are saved in my OneDrive account.

I contacted Microsoft support and they said it’s a formatting issue between desktop version and mobile version, so opens the word files in read only mode.

Anyone got any ideas how to get these files working properly between the desktop and mobile devices?

    Mine is already in docx format and I still can't edit it. Defeats the whole purpose of using Microsoft on your phone. How do you delete the Microsoft apps on your phone?

    Hi,

    I was facing the same issue on my android phone. Seems changing the format of the file from doc to docx does the trick and enables editing. Please check if you've been trying to edit a doc file. If yes, then upgrade it to docx and then retry. Worked for me.

    You’re welcome. I’m glad you have found a workaround for your problem, but I understand that it’s not the ideal solution.

    Try clearing the cache and data of your OneDrive app on your mobile devices. Also, try to uninstall and reinstall the OneDrive app
