It's more expensive to buy the family account, when only my one child needs access.
I also had the same issue and the only way to do it via the Microsoft account is to buy the family package (more expensive).
However if you have an Amazon account, you can purchase a Microsoft 365 personal package. When you select activate, you can log in using the child account credentials and then their subscription will renew.
You could also purchase it from a shop like curry’s or Argos and when logged into the child account, select the ‘enter product key’ and renew their subscription that way.

I’m having this same issue she the only one with a laptop at the moment. We only want the personal. Did you manage to get this resolved?
I have the same issue. My daughter is the only person that needs 365 access - Was this resolved? how do we buy her a personal subscription?
