how to add page numbers in APA format on word online

I am having an issue where when i am using word online that is given to me by my school I am not able to have continuous page numbers either they are all one number or it is every other page that has a number. It is never 1, 2, 3 only 1, 1, 1 which is not correct. In order to get page numbers on my document I have to email my document to someone else and have them add the numbers then I can submit my documents for school.

Why is word online so different than downloadable. I do not have the format page numbers option on word online, like on downloadable word.

Does anyone else have this issue?

It is making my school harder than it has to be considering I am mostly writing papers and cannot format them how they should be.

Is there steps that I am missing?

Just a note that I suspect that the online version of Word is not going to produce APA formatted papers very easily. It may take the desktop application.

Since everyone at your school may be using the online version, the school will have to deal with that.

Word Online is a simplified version of the full product that you can run on a PC or Mac.

That said, you can add basic page number formats in Word Online. Select a format from the gallery. After it has been added, you'll see <#> in the document header and you may have to switch to the Reading view to see how the page number will actually print.

    Dear Maya,

I'm afraid that the Page Numbering feature in Word for the web is different from the Word desktop client. It can't be formatted like the Word desktop client.

Based on the article Page numbering in Word - Microsoft Support, the best way to work with page numbers is in Word on a laptop or desktop computer, rather than in a web browser or mobile app.

I suggest you format the page numbering in the Word desktop client and the changes may be synced to Word for the web like the following.

As our product developers are willing to hear users' requirements, I suggest you submit your feedback and convey your suggestions to our new Feedback platform mentioned in the following article for the product developers to know your suggestions and opinions for product improvements.

Introducing Feedback for Microsoft 365 - Microsoft Community Hub

Please note the platform page will be loaded after some time based on the network environments.

You may access the page as follows to submit the feedback as well.

You may use a personal account or a Microsoft 365 business work or school account to submit the feedback.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Have a nice day!

    Sincerely
