I finally got my office Home and Student 2021 to install, with the help of Microsoft help.

Today I tried to get into both excel and word. it opens, gives a message about open in safe mod then closes. This is a new computer and I am named as the administrator. my old computer (which once was a business computer) was M-C auto as administrator. Could this be my problem, if so how do I fix?

Strong word of caution to following the instructions above for "repairing" Office. I was getting prompts for safe mode every time I opened Excel, so tried these steps. The first one being the "Repair" through Control Panel. I used the local repair option first, and got a message that no problems were found. I then went to try additional repair steps, only to discover that the first repair attempt completely uninstalled Office from my machine. Completely gone!

Hi Nan V, I am here to provide assistance to help resolve your issue. It sounds like you are encountering an issue where you Microsoft Word and Excel are opening in Safe Mode then shutting down. This may be due to a number of reasons such as software conflicts and compatibility issue. Here are some potential fixes to resolve your issue. 1 - Check for software updates as updates generally contain bug fixes and stability improvements which may fix issues such as this. 2 - Disabling recently installed Add-ins or third party plugins may resolve the issue as they may cause conflicts with your software. 3 - Microsoft Office has a built-in repair tool which could help potentially resolve your issue. To perform this task head to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select Microsoft Office, and then click on "Change" or "Repair." 4 - Clear Office Cache as this can resolve the unexpected behavior. Search "Office Upload Center" in the Start Menu and open it then go to Settings > Delete Cached Files. 5 - Creating a New User Profile could potentially be a fix as you could test if Word and Excel work under the new User profile. This will help determine if it is only an issue on your specific user profile. 6 - Running a system scan may allow for underlying issues with hardware or software to be presented and fixed. By following these steps you should be able to identify and address the cause of your issues with Word and Excel opening gin safe mode then abruptly closing. Sincerely, Richard.N (Source - https://answers.microsoft.com/thread/8a4fd20a-e725-467f-84d7-be6e0e0a523c - This source may be of your benefit to look at.)
