Cannot insert pictures from One Drive Photos into a PowerPoint presentation.

This is the message I get when I try to insert, paste or copy any photo from OneDrive >Photos into PowerPoint. And it's not OK!

My thinking was that if both PowerPoint and Photos are apps within OneDrive, then they should be able to talk to one another and sort this out. But it seems not to be. What do I have to do? Give up on this "Photos" app and just save photos as 'Pictures'? If so, what is the point of 'Photos' in OneDrive?

    Hello David and Ngaire Neate,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are trying to insert a picture from OneDrive to your presentation and encounter an error.

You are correct that the files or saved pictures from OneDrive should be accessible. Since OneDrive photo is online, copying the picture is effective to temporary stored picture such as screenshots. In connection to that, we would like to ask for details:

    • Can we confirm if you are trying to insert a picture using this step: Insert tab > Online Pictures?
    • If yes, is your computer connected to a domain or for personal use?
    • If no, can we ask if you inserted to the picture through

To insert pictures from OneDrive Photos into a PowerPoint presentation, follow these steps:

    1. Open your PowerPoint presentation and navigate to the slide where you want to insert the picture.
    2. Click on the "Insert" tab in the top menu bar.
    3. Click on the "Online Pictures".
    4. In the "Insert Picture" dialog box, click on the "OneDrive" option.
    5. Sign in to your OneDrive account if prompted.
    6. Browse through your OneDrive folders and select the photo you want to insert.
    7. Click on the "Insert" button to add the picture to your slide.

You can also drag and drop the photo from your OneDrive folder directly onto the slide.

Let me know how it went.

    Hi Kathy A,

Im suffering through the same thing, as the Online Pictures/Insert Picture is not showing the Onedrive option, only the Search Bing option.

Ive re-updated Microsoft 365, nothing that I can easily find to enable the Onedrive option. Help..

Hello again Kathy, and thanks for your reply.

Here's what I am starting with:

Selecting "Online Pictures" opens this box:

I agree, there should be an option there for OneDrive. That was certainly the way that this worked in my last place of appointment (a school using Microsoft for everything). I'm pretty sure that there, we used to find that a box similar to the "Search Bing" one above would enable you to access the online photos stored on OneDrive by school teachers.

I will see what I can do in Word and let you know. Appreciate your sticking with me on this!

    regards

    David

    Hi David and Ngaire Neate,

Thanks for sharing the details of your concern.

There should be a selection of OneDrive on that, can we ask if you select the Online Pictures if there is an option for OneDrive?

Kindly try to see if issue persists, if you try it on Word app too.

Also, can we ask for a screenshots?

Let us know if the issue still the same.

    Regards,

    Kathy A.

    Hello again Kathy

well, partly solved it - I did a Microsoft 365 update and that means that my PowerPoint now has under the "Insert" tab the "Online Pictures" option, so that's a start.

However, there is still no "OneDrive" option - "Online Pictures" still only offers me pictures from Bing.

I feel I am so close to getting this sorted. Any help / feedback from the Community appreciated.

    David
