Still no solution for "Word is finishing analysing your document" - Microsoft please help!

Hi

As also many others have reported (over several years), Word still quite often suddenly says "word is finishing analysing your document". The document then freezes (and Word as a whole freezes) for more than 15 minutes, and even the "ESC to cancel" option does not have any effect.

This is an issue that appears a lot (when I look on Google and on this forum), but there is jot a single solution given that works (things like "untick keep track of formatting" don't work). There is also no solution given on the Microsoft pages and, so far, the Microsoft people do not give any useful responses either.

I do nothing special. No collaborative working or whatsever. No macros. I am editing a straightforward Word-file (quite large, headindsgs, ToC, bullet lists and enumerate lists; but no images or fancy consrtucts). I have disabled all AutoCorrect options.

The issue appears at random moments, and also quite frequently when I want to make or adjust an enumerated list from the menu item in the ribbon. It is very very disturbing and makes be loose 15-60 minutes of work time almost every day!

I am using the most recent Microsoft Office 365, including the latest updates, on a Microsoft Office 365 Surface Pro, withj Microsoft Windows 11.

Can anyone at Microsoft, or any other user, explain what is happening in this "analysis" (is it useful)?

How can I turn it off / configure it?

Thanks.

Roel

    Same problem. Still no solution,

"Word is finishing analyzing your document" happens everytime (and freezes Word for 10-15 minutes, 60-page Word-file) when I am clicking on the enumerated list icon in the menu bar or on the bullet list icon in the menu bar. Impossible to work with.

Please tell me how to prevent Word to do "Word is finishing analyzing your document" - othing is wrong with the document, it just prevents me from working for 10-15 minutes.

    Best, R

The "analyzing your document" message could simply mean that the system is trying to gather information that should be sent in a crash report.

Since you mention that crashes occur frequently when you access numbering options, try deleting the ListGal.dat file, with Word closed.

ListGal.dat is somewhere in your Windows user profile path, for example at C:\Users\sbm01\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word.

To locate the file, you can search for it in File Explorer. Make sure to display hidden files and folders in File Explorer before you begin the search.

Restart Word and see if there is any improvement.

I have the problem as soon as I click on the menu button, so I cannot even get to the deeper levels.

I also get it on existing lists, not just when creating new ones.

I have already disabled all AutoCorrect and AutoFormat options - did not help.

Do you have the same problem if you use the Multilevel List button? If not, you can avoid the issue by creating and using numbered/bulleted styles linked to a multilevel list. See https://shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/numbering20072010.html and https://shaunakelly.com/word/bullets/controlbullets20072010.html
