What happened was that Microsoft decided to modify the document Theme called "Office" which is being used in Word by default. Therefore, the change applied to any Word installation that had accepted the factory default settings.

Microsoft could have made the process easier for users by adding a new Theme rather than modifying an existing one.

You can set Calibri back as the font of your choice, for example via Design tab > Document Formatting group > Fonts. Then save this as the new default via Design tab > Document Formatting group > Set as Default.

the font issue is such a nightmare. its the arogance of microsoft developers that might think that chaning the font might be a good idea. This feature alone, doube the cost of micosoft woord, compared to if micosroft word had been more userfriendly (which of course means less features).

i have hired a consultant to help me edit the font issue. And then a week later, the fonts are all **** up again. Its so frustrating. Maybe the microsoft developers have a perverse sexual pleasure in making life difficult for others. It seems so.

    Hello,

My name is EngineTyme, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I would be glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing font-related issues in Microsoft Word, particularly with the change from Calibri to Aptos. Let’s address this:

    1. Aptos as the New Default Font: Aptos is indeed the new default font in Microsoft Office applications, including Word. This change was automatic and affects all Office products. However, you can customize the font settings to your preference.
    2. Changing Default Font in Outlook and Word: To revert to Calibri or any other font: For Outlook: Open a new email or document in Outlook. On the Format Text tab, click the Change Styles button. Choose the font you want (e.g., Calibri) and click Set as Default. For Word: Go to the Design tab. Select the font you prefer (e.g., Calibri) and set it as the default font.
    3. Reading Plain Text Emails: If you find it difficult to read plain text emails in Aptos, consider modifying the plain text font: In Outlook for Windows, go to File > Options > Mail > Stationery and Fonts > Personal Stationery. Change the plain text font there.

“Give back to the Community. Help the next person who has this issue by indicating if this reply solved your problem. Click Yes or No below. “

Please let me know if you have any questions or concern.

    Best regards, EngineTyme

    Please read Stefan Blom's response.

He has nailed what is happening.

Here is my article on [Quick] Style Sets and Word Themes in Microsoft Word.

Every built-in style is connected to the active theme in that document.

Most custom themes will also be connected to the installed theme. My article describes how to make a style that is not connected to a theme. It is not hard to do but a special effort would need to be used.

You can easily create a custom theme. Apply it to your normal template.

Apply it to existing documents that come up with the Aptos font.
