I cannot add Pinyin for Chinese characters by using phonetic guide in Word document

Hi there,

I used to be able to add Pinyin on top of Chinese characters by using Phonetic Guide in Word of my Mac Book Air book. I have recently changed to a different Mac Book Air but could not add Pinyin for the Chinese characters by using Phonetic Guide. The Version of my of Microsoft Word for Mac is 16.81 (24011420) and I couldn't find East Asian Languages under Authoring and Proofing Tools.

How can I fix it? Thanks.

    Dear WXuemei

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you

I apologize for the inconvenience. It seems that the East Asian Languages preference does not appear in Office for Mac when macOS language preference is not set to English (US). Kindly read this thread for more info: East Asian Languages preference not appearing in Microsoft Office 2019 - Microsoft Community

To use the phonetic guide in word: From the menu bar, Click Word > Preferences... > Choose East Asian Languages > Set the language on which phonetic guide you want > Restart Word > Highlight the text you want > Click Phonetic Guide icon.

We look forward to your reply. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Hello Tin.

In my case, for MS Word, it works perfectly, as you mentioned the step-by-step.
However, I can not say the same for MS Excel.
Despite having the Pinyin buttom available in Excel, when I click it, the space for pinyin is added to the cel, but the characters are not displayed. It seems the chinese characters are missing - but I am sure they are present on my mac as I can use them on MS Word using the pinyin buttom.

Here a print screen with Excel and Word with the same writting, but, on Word I can add the Pinyin and not on Excel.

    Any idea?
