Incorrect Background Color display in PDF Export with Custom Sizes (Microsoft Word)

I'm writing to report a bug I encountered in Microsoft Word while exporting DOCX files to PDF. The bug occurs when the following conditions are met:

  • A background color is applied to the document.
  • A custom page size is defined.
  • The "Microsoft Print to PDF" option is selected for exporting.

Under these conditions, the exported PDF only displays the background color on a small portion of the page.

Workaround:

To ensure the background color displays correctly in the exported PDF, you must choose a standard page size (e.g., A4, A3, Letter). Alternatively, if you want to use a custom size with a background color, you must export the document using the "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" option. However, please note that XPS files aren't fully supported by all devices.

Summary:

There seems to be a bug in Microsoft Word when exporting DOCX files to PDF using the "Microsoft Print to PDF" option with custom page sizes and background colors. The bug results in the background color only being displayed on a small portion of the exported PDF.

Office version :

Version 2108 (Build 14332.20624)
