Onedrive - Problems refreshing, uploading, file names

I have Onedrive installed on 2 computers, my desktop and work laptop. I use no other software related to sharing files and am the only user of the onedrive account.

Since yesterday, I am getting the error message "Upload Failed: Problems Refreshing. Your file could not be refreshed with updates from the server" on all my files.

When I open a file, for example "Events" spreadsheet, rather than calling it events on the taskbar it is just named "Excel", the same is true for Word documents, they are just named "Word". I tried clicking the "Discard changes and download the latest version from the server" on a word document and it brought up a coruptted file of gibberish!

I am really struggling as my entire business relies on files stored in Onedrive. There were no other changes yesterday, it was working correctly on my Desktop and then, whne i went to work the laptop started doing this. Having now checked my desktop today, it is behaving the same way.

Hi, thank you for reaching out. My name is Deeksha and I'm a Microsoft user like yourself and I will try to help you as best as I can today.

Step 1: Check OneDrive Status Check the status of OneDrive services to see if there are any ongoing issues: OneDrive Status

Open OneDrive and sign in again. On macOS: Click on the OneDrive cloud icon in the menu bar. Click on Quit OneDrive. Open OneDrive from the Applications folder and sign in again.

Step 3: Reset OneDrive On Windows: Press Windows + R keys together to open the Run dialog. Type %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset and press Enter. After executing the command, restart your computer. On macOS: Open Terminal from Applications > Utilities. Paste defaults write com.microsoft.OneDrive ResetOneDriveAppLibrary TRUE and press Enter. Step 8: Restore Files If your files are corrupted or missing, you may be able to restore them from the OneDrive Recycle Bin or from a previous version: Right-click on the OneDrive cloud icon and select View online. Navigate to the Recycle Bin and check if your files are there. Right-click on the corrupted file and select Version history to restore a previous version.

Step 9: Backup Important Files As a precaution, backup your important files to an external drive or another cloud storage service.

Try these steps and hopefully, it resolves your issue. In case you need further help or assistance, please let us know. You can also contact Microsoft Support if the problem persists.

    Best regards Deeksha

    Hi,

"D.Docs.Live" credentials when trying to download a new version of a Word or Excel file from OneDrive usually refers to the credentials associated with your Microsoft account or the account you use to access OneDrive and Microsoft Office applications.

Troubleshooting Steps: Use Microsoft Account login: Make sure you are entering the correct Microsoft account login that you use to log in to OneDrive and other Microsoft services.

    Reset Microsoft Account Password:

If you are unsure about your Microsoft account password or suspect it might be incorrect, you can reset it. Go to the Microsoft account password reset page. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password. Check OneDrive Sync Settings:

Make sure that OneDrive is properly set up and syncing your files. Open OneDrive settings on your computer. Check the account information and ensure that you are logged in with the correct Microsoft account.

Sign Out and Sign In Again: Try signing out of your Microsoft account from all Microsoft Office applications and OneDrive, then sign in again. Open any Microsoft Office application (e.g., Word or Excel). Go to File > Account > Sign Out. Sign in again with your Microsoft account credentials. Check File Ownership:

Make sure that you are the owner of the Word or Excel file you are trying to download. If the file was shared with you, make sure you have the necessary permissions to download it.

Try a Different Browser or Device: Attempt to download the file using a different web browser or device to see if the issue persists.

Clear Browser Cache and Cookies: Clearing the browser cache and cookies can sometimes resolve issues with accessing OneDrive and downloading files. For Chrome: Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data. For Firefox: Go to Options > Privacy & Security > Clear Data. For Edge: Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Choose what to clear. Check File Availability:

Make sure that the file you are trying to download is available and not corrupted. You can try opening the file directly from OneDrive to check its status.

    Hi again

I tried to restore the old file and, when opened, was prompted to download a new version from the server. However, if I do this it asks me for

D.Docs.Live credentials, I have no idea what these would be or what this is?

    Hi, try this

Clear OneDrive Cache Sometimes, clearing the OneDrive cache can resolve sync issues. Here’s how to clear the OneDrive cache: taskkill /f /im OneDrive.exe %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    Restart your computer. On macOS:

Open Terminal from Applications > Utilities. Paste the following command and press Enter:

    rm -rf ~/.onedrive/cache

    Restart your computer.

Restore Word Files If your Word files are being corrupted, you may need to restore them from the OneDrive Recycle Bin or from a previous version:

    On Windows:

Right-click on the OneDrive cloud icon and select View online. Navigate to the Recycle Bin and check if your files are there. Right-click on the corrupted file and select Version history to restore a previous version. On macOS:

Click on the OneDrive cloud icon in the menu bar. Click on More (three dots) > View online. Navigate to the Recycle Bin and check if your files are there. Right-click on the corrupted file and select Version history to restore a previous version.

Repair Office Installation If the Word files are still being corrupted, try repairing your Office installation:

    On Windows:

Open Control Panel > Programs and Features. Find Microsoft Office in the list, right-click it, and choose Change. Select Repair and follow the on-screen instructions. On macOS:

Open Finder and go to Applications. Find Microsoft Word, right-click it, and choose Get Info. Click Repair Disk Permissions.

Check Office Update Ensure that your Office applications are up to date. Sometimes, outdated versions can cause syncing and corruption issues:

    On Windows:

Open any Office application (e.g., Word). Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now. On macOS:

Open any Office application (e.g., Word). Go to Help > Check for Updates and follow the on-screen instructions to update Office.

The problem appears to be partially resolved.

The Excel files appear to sync and are avaialble on both devices but all opened documents are simply called "Excel" or "Word" based on the program used, rather than the actual file name, somewhat annoying when I have 6-7 open at once!

The Word files, however, are being corrupted once I exit, it state that there is a newer version of the server and, when I close and reopen, its just gibberish
