Get microsoft office to work on Mac Big Sur 11

Hello

I just wanted to confirm this is correct. I have used microsoft office for over a decade and always upgraded to the latest version. I have a macbook pro that cannot update past Big Surr (mac os 11). When I try and download microsoft office, it now says the new version ins't compatible with my version of mac. Every other app for everywhere else works with it. Does this mean i can no longer get any version of microsoft office that will work on my mac? Is the only solution to buy a new laptop?! That is mad if that's the case.

    Dear respected Mike_2409,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I’m sorry you’re having a problem but based on your description we can work together to resolve it.

For the situation you encountered, we deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

As per your description, you can use Office on your Mac OS Big Sur. But the latest version of Office 16.82 did not support on your Mac OS Big Sur.

You can use old Office version 16.77 on your Mac OS Big Sur(this is last/final version for Mac OS Big Sur).

You can download the installer version 16.77 from this link Office suite (with Teams) on your MacOS Big Sur 11.7.2.

Also, you can download the installer version 16.77 from this page: Update history for Office for Mac as well.

For your reference according to Microsoft article Upgrade macOS to continue receiving Microsoft 365 and Office for Mac updates, the September 2023 update (16.77) is the last build to support macOS Big Sur.

    Summary:

Since the latest Office version doesn't support MacOS Big Sur 11.7.2. First, you'd need to delete the wrong version:

For your reference: Uninstall Office for Mac - Microsoft Support

Then for MacOS Big Sur 11.7.2, you can download 16.77 compatible version of Office:

    Office package (with Teams)

    Office package (without Teams)

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad

    WELL, WELL, WELL

I just used Waqas Muhammad suggestion

    1. Delete the old microsoft software
    2. click on Office package (with Teams) from the summary below
    3. open the installer from the link in section 2
    4. log into mikicrosft account and hey bingo. I assume by logging into my microsft account enabled the installer to activate with my lifetime product key.

So now I'm a happy office user again!

hope this helps for anyone who is restricetd to 'Big Sur" operating system, like me. I was almost resigned to buying a new laptop just to have access to office excel & word.

    cheers

    Eddie

I have exactly the same problem. After contacting Apple support they suggested to get an updated laptop. So now my lifetime product key is useless, so it’s not really a lifetime licence. BUGGER!

    Hi Waqas

Thank you for your help with the advice regarding the installer download for microsoft office version 16.77 for the macOS Big Sur 11.7.10. I

I have having trouble opening up microsoft word, powerpoint and excel and have done what suggested and downloaded version 16.77 and the installer has said it was successful, however microsoft word, powerpoint and excel has not appeared on my computer for me to use. I am clearly not understanding what happens or what I need to do next, I was wondering if you can help as I really need to get the microsoft software up and running.

Thank you for all your help, it is much appreciated.
