Hello.

I attempted to rename a Onenote notebook to 'm. Patient Education' (in Onedrive).

After hitting the Rename button the notebook name became 'm' with the filename extension '. Patient Education':

I cannot figure out how to now rename the notebook to remove the '. Patient Education' filename extension.

Help please!

Greg

    Hi Parth,

Thank you for your prompt and detailed assistance.

Unfortunately I have not been able to remove the notebook filename.

As a workaround, I created a new notebook, moved all sections from the old to the new notebook, and then deleted the old notebook.

    This has solved the problem.

    Kind regards,

    Greg

    Suggestion #4 would work.

    Hello Greg,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties regarding OneNote, it can often be tricky due to how OneDrive handles file extensions and below are some steps to help resolve this:

    1. Go to the OneDrive website.
    2. Locate the Notebook: Navigate to the folder where your OneNote notebook is located.
    3. Rename Online on the Web Interface through: 3.1)Right-clicking on the notebook file and choose the "Rename" option. Try renaming the file to 'm. Patient Education' without removing the extension. This can sometimes trigger the system to recognize it as a file name change rather than an extension change.
    4. Rename Using File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac): If renaming through the web interface doesn't work, try renaming the notebook using File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac). Locate the notebook file in your OneDrive folder on your computer. Right-click on the file and choose "Rename" or click on the file name twice slowly to enter rename mode. Try renaming the file to 'm. Patient Education' without removing the extension.
    5. Refresh OneDrive: After renaming the file, wait for a few moments and then refresh your OneDrive page or application to see if the changes have been applied. Now open OneNote and hopefully the name has been updated correctly.

Hopefully the following solutions listed above help solve your problem and should you have further concerns please do not hesitate to contact me again.

    Thanks,

    Parth P.
