How can I use Microsoft Office on a Mac book Pro mid 2012

I was in the middle of working on a piece for my PhD in neuroscience when word suddenly said I am only allowed to have the view only version. I tried to update office, however all of a sudden my version of Mac does not support office anymore. I don't want to buy a new Mac just to use Office as the computer itself is perfectly functional and is Known to be capable to support the new Apple software. Is there any other way to use Microsoft office? Throwing functional computers away and creating more waste for the environment to deal with is definitely not the solution! I would be grateful for any support in this matter.

    Hi

If you can locate a never before activated copy of Microsoft Office 2011 you should be able to use it.

You might consider using LibreOfficeto replace Microsoft Office. LibreOfficeis a free, somewhat compatible desktop suite. Microsoft has a free, on-line version of Microsoft Office at OneDrive.com, which is also a good substitute for users of older versions of Mac OS if you don’t mind the hassle of having to use the web. If your needs are light-duty, try Apple’s Office applications: Numbers, Pages, Keynote and Apple Mail.

    Dear Johanna,

Good day! Thank you for posting your query in our community.

Based on your description, you're having trouble using Microsoft Office on your Macbook Pro. To help you better, could you please provide more information for us?

    1. What's your Mac OS version and your Office version?
    2. Please provide a screenshot of your subscription page for me:

If you are using Personal account, please go here; If you are using Business account, please go here.

Alternatively, you can try using the online version of Microsoft Office, which is available for free through your Microsoft account. This version of Office does not require any installation and can be accessed through your web browser.

    Sincerely,

    Jazlyn | Microsoft Community Moderator

Here's my how-to article on how to download and install the most recent version of Office that your Mac can run: Most Recent Office You Can Run - Best Practices. As Bob has mentioned, that will be the 16.66 version for you.

    Hi,

I am using the office provided by my university, the university currently has office 365 but this can not update on my computer as my mac wont update to the new OS12 software.

My mac is from 2012, model A1502, hence the newest version for this mac is Catalina.

I used the online office version yesterday, but to be honest I would prefer to use the normal version on my laptop and I think I should be able to regardless of the age of my computer.

    Thank you very much.

    Best,

    Jo

    Hi,

Thank you so much for this. I will try out LibreOffice for now and see how that works.

    Thank you very much.
