Hello, Saba
Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. I am an advisor that can help you with your Microsoft Office concerns. I totally understand that you wanted to change the header of your pages in Microsoft Word. I am more willing to help you with it.
It sounds like you're experiencing issues with unlinking headers in Microsoft Word on your Mac. Here's how you can unlink headers from previous sections:
Double-click on the header area of the page where you want to change the header. This action should open the header/footer area for editing.
Look for the option to "Link to Previous" in the header/footer toolbar. This option may appear as a button or checkbox. Click on it to unlink the header/footer from the previous section. If it's already selected, clicking on it should deselect it.
Once the header/footer is unlinked, you can make changes to it without affecting the headers/footers in other sections.
If you have multiple sections with different headers/footers, repeat the above steps for each section where you want to change the header/footer.
After making the desired changes to the header/footer, you can close the header/footer area. Your changes should now be reflected in the document.
If the "Link to Previous" option is not working as expected, you may encounter a formatting issue or a limitation in Word. In such cases, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
Ensure that you're in Print Layout view. Sometimes, certain features may not work as expected in other views. Check if there are any section breaks in your document. Section breaks can affect the behavior of headers/footers. If the issue persists, try restarting Microsoft Word or even your Mac to see if it resolves the problem.
To change the header for each page in Microsoft Word on Mac, you'll need to work with sections and unlink headers. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Place your cursor at the end of the page where you want to start a new header. Go to the "Layout" or "Document Elements" tab in the ribbon at the top, then select "Breaks" and choose "Next Page" under the "Section Breaks" category. Repeat this process for each new section where you want a different header.
Double-click on the header area of the first page in the new section.
Double-click on the header area of each subsequent section, and repeat steps 4 and 5 to unlink the header/footer from the previous section and make changes as needed.
After making the desired changes to the header/footer in each section, you can close the header/footer area by clicking outside of it or by selecting "Close Header and Footer" from the toolbar.

Although this is marked as an answer, the advice given will virtually never be what is needed. You do not want a separate section for every page or for most pages. Although useful, section breaks add a lot of overhead to a document.
The StyleRef field will almost always fulfill any need to create different headers or footers on different pages. See the posts below.
