Word is driving me nuts with all the pop-up editing and grammar suggestions, auto-text, etc. I am a seasoned writer and I don't need this kind of tutoring. It distracts me from my work and breaks my train of thought. I especially want to get rid of Quick Parts and autotext. I know what a want to say; Microsoft's guesses are usually wrong.

Trust me, as a seasoned writer, you do NOT want to get rid of AutoText or QuickParts.

You do want to get rid of the suggestions that Microsoft is foisting off on you, though.

This is primarily in Windows, rather than Word.

I am assuming that as a writer you are using the desktop application, not the browser program named Word.

You can, in Word, turn off the AutoComplete feature for AutoText (and other building blocks). This is an advanced option.

First, though, try simply unchecking the option for text predictions. I suspect that is the Word feature causing problems.

Thanks, Charles. I am delighted with the responsiveness of this community.

Yes, Leo made a similar suggestion a little while ago. I unclicked Text Predictions. It reclicked itself so I did it again, making sure to check Okay, and that seems to have worked. But tell me, please, why don't I want to get rid of Quick Parts and Autotext?

Hi, Leo -- Thanks so much for your response. I followed your instructions and found several things to uncheck. But the problem still exists. It seems to be part of something called Quick Parts. Example: I just typed the word "down" in a Word document. It assumed I wanted to write "download" and finished the word for me, inserting grayed type and a big "Tab" box. I was intending to write "downtown" so I had to type over this distraction. MICROSOFT DOESN"T KNOW WHAT'S IN MY MIND!

ETA: I went back to Options -.Advanced and the autocomplete box was check again. Unchecked it a second time, clicked Okay, went back to my document an it seems to be leaving me in peace for the moment. But can't I get rid of the whole Quick Parts thing? It's useless to me.

    Thanks again for your help.
