I just purchased a MacBook Air. Is there a specific version of Office I need to purchase for this home computer? I'm a PC person at heart but got a great deal on this slightly used MacBook Air 13.

Thanks much!

TC

There is no model-specific version for the Macbook Air. The determining factor is the version of macOS the Mac is running or can be upgraded to. Mac Office is supported on the three current releases of macOS: Sonoma, Ventura & Monterey.

    Hi TC:

Hmmm... I am not sure I should tell you this, but I did the exact same thing in about 2005, and somehow I have not found my way back to buying a PC since :-)

Warning: Incoming Bad Language! Everything is slightly different on a Mac, allow yourself a little blasphemy until you learn where everything is! :-)

It won't hurt you to spend half an hour in the "Getting Started" parts of the Apple Mac OS Help: it will potentially save you several hours of warfare in your first weeks.

If all else fails, close your eyes and pretend it's Windows: most things you do then will work!

    Welcome!

    Hello TC,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Yes, there is a specific version of Office that you can purchase for your MacBook Air. You can purchase Office for Mac, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

You can purchase it as a one-time purchase such as Office Home & Business 2021 or as a subscription-based service, such as Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Personal, for your reference: Compare Microsoft 365 plans.

Note: To provide you with the best experience, Office supports the three most recent major versions of Apple's macOS. So please ensure your macOS is macOS Monterey or higher version.

By the way, if you already have a Microsoft 365 Family/Personal subscription and installed Office on PC from the subscription, you can now install Office apps on your MacBook Air by visiting https://www.office.com and log in your account, then click "Install Office" from upper-right corner.

    I hope it helps.

Let me know if you have any concerns, I'll be glad to help you further.

    Have a nice day!

    Sincerely,

    Tina | Microsoft Community Moderator

Do you not allready have a current office version on your PC? as you may be able to install this from your MS Account on the Mac
