    Good day!

I have found a temporary work around for the watermark issue.

    Open MS word Document

ribbon>>File>>options>> under "general" click on privacy settings>>scroll to CONNECTED EXPERIENCES

deselect the check box marked "Experiences that download online content"

Restart the program. Open file and add custom watermark as usual. Click "Work offline" when prompted and the customer watermark feature will work as normal.

    hope this helps!

    Hello Laneburritt,

I'm Segunfunmi, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thank you for posting your query in this forum.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble inserting a picture watermark into your Word document. This issue might be due to a bug in the software. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

Alternative Method: You can insert an image directly into the header of your document. Here’s how:

Double-click on the header of your document. Navigate to Insert -> Picture and select your image. After inserting the image, select it. On the top ribbon, adjust the transparency and resize the image as needed. Office Repair: If the issue continues, consider performing an online repair of your Office installation.

Work Offline: Another workaround is to click the “Work Offline” button in the second window. This action opens File Explorer, where you can select the image file.

Remember, it’s important to keep your software updated to benefit from the latest fixes and improvements.

I hope this helps! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.

This problem has been reported to Microsoft. The latest word from my Word contact is:

The bug we have tracking this is still open and the crew is investigating. We’re unable to repro internally, so the team is trying to gather more information. I was able to reproduce the issue shortly after it was reported, but it resolved itself on my end.

If you’re able to collect information from users, the crew is looking to confirm if the issue occurs with all these entry points:

    • Ribbon > Insert > Pictures > Online Pictures.
    • Ribbon > Home > Paragraph > Bullet Library > Define New Bullet > Picture > Bing Image Search
    • Ribbon > Design > Watermark > Custom Watermark > Picture Watermark > Select Picture

If one of these gives the HTTP error, do the other scenarios listed here work?

INFO The http: error message is the clue.

FAILCASE - Set AutoSave to "No". They can't reproduce it because they aren't testing with documents that default to "Auto Save = No". BTW - My "One Drive" Pictures directory is called Pictures (OD) so I would stop downloading files onto the internet where I can't access them if I'm stuck in a wireless environment - like Verizon a few weeks ago...

THE BUG: It's trying to go to One Drive / Pictures for you to start your search for the file... instead of starting with the local directory (which includes One Drive folder). Depending on the name / location of the One Drive folder/link on the local machine, the filename is too long.

FIX: Start with "My PC" not One Drive.

ANOTHER BUG: If I turn off the internet, hoping to force it to the local drive, I get a blank screen (with no error message).

    Hi Suzanne,

    Thanks for weighing in.

I have the same watermark issue and tested the other options. Here are my results:

    • Ribbon > Insert > Pictures > Online Pictures.  -- Works fine
    • Ribbon > Home > Paragraph > Bullet Library > Define New Bullet > Picture > Bing Image Search -- HTTP error
    • Ribbon > Design > Watermark > Custom Watermark > Picture Watermark > Select Picture --- HTTP error

Hope this contributes to a quick resolution.

    Kind regards,

    Kim
