How to add an Attachment caption to a Word Template

We have a Word template that sets up a basic outline for procedures that has several blank attachment pages with Headings of Attachment 1 - Add Title; Attachment 2 -- Add Title; and so on. I would like to have a caption called Attachment so we can cross-reference to either the entire caption or just the label and number. I inserted a New Caption and everything looked good until I saved the template and Word asked if I wanted to save changes made to my Normal dotx. Apparently, the caption is stored there and not in my template. Many others will be using this template so is there a way to store the caption in the template or the macro file we are using as an Add-in?

The only solution AFAIK is just to recreate the caption label on the target computer; Word will then treat those captions just the same as on the source computer.

Actually I believe caption labels are stored in the Normal template. It's label definitions (for printed labels) that are stored somewhere in the Registry (and can be copied and transferred: see http://www.gmayor.com/custom_labels.htm).

Where are these labels stored on the computer? I once used a procedure writing system that had a macro that created the caption whenever an attachment was added. Yes, you can do multiple bookmarks, but that's a pain. There has to be a way to get this label on everyone's computer that uses this template.

New labels, custom labels are store on your computer, but not in the Normal template or a document template.

You can add the captions in your document/template but the cross-reference looks to the list of labels on your computer. It will not travel with the document or template. The captions will work on any computer with the Table of Figures, though.

However, you can also bookmark the caption and insert cross-references to the bookmark.
