i've been using excel & word for decades & updated to office 2021 3 weeks ago. until today, when i using the OPEN command, it went directly to my excel folder. it no longer does it, but forces me to see a window (i'm told it's the new interface) & i have to move PAST the interface to get to my folder.

Once you click On My Mac then navigate to the folder & open a file it should be persistent unless you later navigate to or open a file in a different location.

However, if you have a specific folder you want to be able to return to readily just add it to the Sidebar in a Finder window. See Mac Help on the subject:

thanks so much. i thought of adding a folder to the sidebar, but the software has stopped the irritating option & the regular folder is popping up again.

    Dear DAN EGGLESTON,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, you want to go directly to your Excel & Word folders when using Office 2021 for Mac.

As far as I know, I'm afraid there is no built-in feature in Office 2021 for Mac to meet this requirement. Very sorry for the inconvenience.

I sincerely recommend you send feedback by clicking Help menu > Feedback from Excel. Feedback submit by this way directly goes to the related team. This is the best way to let the developers know your requirements and help us improve the product. For reference: How do I give feedback on Microsoft 365?

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Tina | Microsoft Community Moderator
