I want to print out my red-lined document showing the red-lined sections in red (Word Online)

A co-worker sent me a red-lined version of a Word document. I opened it up in the Word app of my Microsoft Online Office 365 family account on my laptop. I can view the red-line changes on the screen. But when I go to print out the document, the changes are magically accepted, and print out black. I want to print out the document and see the red-lined changes on paper.

This is what is showing on my screen when I view the document (The rest of the document is confidential, so I am only showing this one innocuous example):

ENGAGEMENT AGREEMENT

March 28298, 2024

Here is what prints out:

ENGAGEMENT AGREEMENT

March 28, 2024

I WANT to see all the red changes when I print out the document at this point. How do I get that done?

Thank you

I'm sorry, I didn't notice your initial statement that you're using online Office. This makes all the difference.

There are many things that work in desktop Office programs that don't work at all in the online versions, and this is one of them. To print out the tracked changes as they appear in the editing display, you must open the document in desktop Word -- if you have it installed on your computer. The alternatives are to go to a computer that has the desktop version (maybe in a public library) or to read the document in online Word without printing it.

    Hello Alison,

    * I am a Microsoft user like you, providing solutions to community members; I am NOT a Microsoft employee.

You're right, by default, printing a tracked changes document in Word removes the colored highlighting and incorporates the edits into the final printout. Here's how to print your document with the redlined sections still visible in red:

Open the document with the redlined changes. Click on the "Review" tab at the top of the screen. In the "Tracking" section, ensure "Track Changes" is enabled (it should be highlighted). Click the dropdown menu next to "View Markup". Select "All Markup" from the list. This will ensure all edits, including comments and deletions, are displayed. Now, go to the "File" tab and click "Print". Under "Settings", make sure "Print Markup" is checked. This option tells Word to include the tracked changes in the printed document. Click "Print" to print your document with the redlined sections in red.

Note: These methods work in Microsoft Word Online Office 365 family accounts on laptops. The specific interface might differ slightly on other platforms, but the core functionality of printing with tracked changes should be similar.

    Hope this helps you.

Sorry, I accidentally clicked that my question has been answered, when in fact, it has not yet been answered--I still cannot print my red-lined changes.

Thank you Stephen N. and Jay F. for your guidance. I believe my issues lies in the Print settings. I am using Microsoft Online Office 365. When I click on "File-Print", this is what I see:

I do not have any settings options available to me. To continue, when I press "Print the Document", this is what I see. I never have the option to include the markups-it does not appear when I click on "More settings" either.

To clarify, in the File > Print page, open the dropdown immediately below the Settings heading, and look near the bottom of the menu. Click the "Print Markup" entry to put a check mark next to it.
