Microsoft Whiteboard is very slow after Windows update of April 17th 2024

I did an update of Windows 11 and just after MS Whiteboard has become extremely slow, when we bypass some amount of writing.

I have been using MS Whiteboard for more than 18 months. I had just an issue once in saving as PDF which was quickly fixed by MS.

And now, there is this problem of slow reaction of the application when we write more than half a page. This problem did not exist before.
I have already tried the "repair" option in the Settings/Applications but it did not fix the issue.

    Dear Tina,

Sorry, I have just seen your message.

I am using MS desktop Whiteboard, and I have a Microsoft 365 Personal account.
I have the same issue on my two PCs under Windows 11.

From the other users comments, the online version seems to be slower than before as well.

Whiteboard starts lagging when you bypass some size of writing or pasting. Which did not happen before.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Sincerely,

I'm not convinced this is an update issue. I'm running Windows 10. The app slowed up a couple of weeks ago and online is barely usable.

A blank whiteboard on the app is ok, but once there's much content it begins to crawl. If you add something, there's a long pause before it appears. Navigation is fine though.

Periodically copy and paste stop working (as in for weeks, and then begin working again). Judging by comments online these kind of symptoms have been plaguing whiteboard users for years. I assume the issue lies with the MS servers that are handling the updates, rather than client side but that's just a guess.

I have already tried the "repair" option in the Settings/Applications but it did not fix the issue.

I have similar issue, it started after Windows 11 updates on 10th April, 2024. I tried to insert the screenshot with the name of updates but I am not able to insert image here, the upload keeps failing. Here are the 2 Windows 11 quality updates after which I am experiencing degraded performance of Microsoft Whiteboard.

    • 2024-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5036893)
    • 2024-04 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5036620)

both of them were installed by windows update on my laptop on 10th April, 2024.

    Issues:

    • Whiteboard is lagging in response.
    • The issue happens while using Web version and also with the installed app version.
    • Undo actions (ctrl+z) are not working.
    • Enhanced inked shapes auto-correction feature not working
    • While trying to insert text it takes time.
    • System CPU/GPU goes UP while using Whiteboard.

I haven't tried to uninstall those updates yet, but I am thinking to try it soon. I also have another Windows 10 laptop provided by company and Whiteboard works as expected on it, so I am quite sure that issue is related to Windows 11.

My day-to-day work relies on Whiteboarding, and it has been 10 days since I am working with broken Whiteboard, any fix related to this will be nice. I don't want to switch products frequently and I have been using White board for quite some time. I will let know if uninstalling the updates fixes the issue.

    Dear Becher Haj Ibrahim,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Per your description, it seems that this issue happens in Whiteboard desktop application after update of Windows 11.

    • May I know if this issue only happens in Whiteboard desktop application? If you go to Whiteboard Online? You may access Microsoft 365 portal https://www.office.com then click Whiteboard from App Launcher.
    • Which account do you sign in Whiteboard? Is it Microsoft 365 Business account or personal Microsoft account?

Look forward to your reply. Thanks for your time and cooperation!

    Sincerely,

    Tina | Microsoft Community Moderator
