Co-Pilot in Excel Desktop Version

My Copilot option in Excel's Desktop Version is greyed out but works in the online version. I've got both a Microsoft 365 plan and Copilot Pro. I save pretty much all of my work via OneDrive and I've been able to easily use Copilot in other Office apps like Word or PowerPoint (desktop version). Am I missing something or is Copilot just not working for me in this area?

    Hello, Eeezzzma

I'm glad to hear back from you.

I understand that you have already performed the OneDrive sync, but the issue still persists.

Since Co-Pilot can only be used in the Excel preview version, may I ask if you are currently using the Excel preview version? If not, please upgrade to the preview version.

If you are already using the preview version, in order to assist you better, please provide the version number.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    With best regards

    Hello,Eeezzzma

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Based on your description, you are encountering an issue where the Co-Pilot option in Excel desktop version appears greyed out.

This issue likely occurs because the Copilot in Excel can only be used with Excel files (.xlsx or .xslm) saved to OneDrive or Microsoft 365 SharePoint locations with auto-save enabled. When editing files saved in locations on your computer or saved as unsupported file types, the Copilot button will not function.

You can try creating a new Excel file in your OneDrive folder or moving existing Excel files to OneDrive for processing.

(Since OneDrive provides robust backup and restore capabilities due to its auto-save feature, this is crucial for utilizing the Copilot feature, especially when making significant modifications to files.)

Feel free to contact us if you encounter any problems or new developments while trying the steps!

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    With best regards

    Hi Navian,

I've saved most of my files in my OneDrive Folder and I still have the same issue. The file types of the files I've looked at for this are all .xlsx.

I still do not have an explanation that makes sense or a solution that works.
