Installing ONLY Word, ONLY on One Computer

Word seems to have disappeared from my computer. I'd like to re-install it, but Microsoft appears to only offer re-installing all of 365 on all my devices. I subscribe to "if it ain't broke don't fix it," so I really don't want to do that.

Does anyone know how to re-install one app to one computer?

Many thanks in advance.

    Thanks so much, Shakiru!

I'd already tried that, as well as searching for the app in the settings > Apps > Installed Apps. It was gone, tragically.

I re-installed Office, and verified my 365 account, so I'm good to go, happily. I made sure the other computers on the account were logged off, so nothing affected their apps.

At least, Word is back and working properly, to be more precise. I haven't yet tried Excel, but I assume it's fine.

    Thank you again!

    Carol

Amadeusz appears to be suffering from a ChatGPT hallucination. It's really too bad they didn't test their advice before posting.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to install just one application in a Microsoft 365 subscription. Here is Microsoft's page on this subject: Can I custom install Office apps?

Large corporations can use the Office Customization Tool. Here's an overview of how to use this: Overview of the Office Customization Tool

It's possible to buy Word as a separate program, which is not part of a Microsoft 365 subscription.

    Hi CarolSalmanson!

I am Shakiru, an independent advisor and a user like you, and I am glad to be helping you out today.

As John Korchok said, With your Microsoft 365 subscription, you can’t custom select which Office apps you want to install.

However, have you checked for the Word app through the Start Button or the search icon on the taskbar?

Click on the Search icon or Start Button on the taskbar and then type Word (Word app), does the Word app show up??

    I await your response.

    Thank you

    Best Regards, Shakiru

    Hi CarolSalmanson,

I am an independent advisor, trying to help other users in the Community with my experience in Microsoft products. Please note that I am a user like you and don't work directly for Microsoft.

If you want to re-install only Microsoft Word on a single computer without reinstalling the entire Microsoft 365 suite, follow these steps:

Sign in to Your Microsoft Account: Open a web browser and go to the Microsoft Account sign-in page. Log in with the same account that you used to purchase Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Word.

Access Your Account Settings: After signing in, click on your profile picture or name in the top-right corner. Choose “My account” or “Account settings” from the dropdown menu.

Look for the section that lists your active subscriptions. Find the Microsoft 365 subscription associated with your account.

Click on the “Manage” or “Install” button next to your Microsoft 365 subscription. This will take you to the subscription management page.

On the subscription management page, you’ll see a list of available apps. Uncheck all the apps except Microsoft Word. Click “Install” or “Download” to download and install Word on your computer.

Follow the prompts to download and install Microsoft Word. Once the installation is complete, launch Word and sign in with your Microsoft account.

    I would appreciate your feedback.
