In Word, you can sort text paragraphs, each of which is terminated by a paragraph mark (represented by a pilcrow, ¶, if you choose to display nonprinting marks).

It is also possible to sort table rows, based on the content in table columns.

I suspect that the crucial part here is what you mean by "groupings" in this context.

    Hi! JJones89,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community! I realize that you want to sort Word's paragraph text in alphabetical order and I understand how you feel.

Here are the detailed steps to sort text in Word alphabetically:

    1. Please use the mouse to select all the paragraphs that need to be sorted.
    2. Please click Home > Find Sort in Paragraph and click it.

    1. In the pop-up page, choose to categorize by paragraph or by Heading, select Ascending (A to Z) or Descending (Z to A), click OK.

Please refer to the official documentation for details:Sort a list alphabetically in Word - Microsoft Support

If you also want to sort the contents of the table, please refer to the link:Sort the contents of a table - Microsoft Support Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.Thank you for your understanding and patience and I look forward to hearing from you. To add to what Stefan and Eddy have said, if by "groupings" you mean sections of a document, then you can sort those provided that each one begins with one of Word's built-in heading styles. Display the document in Outline view, showing only the heading level of the parts you want to sort. When you sort the headings, all the body text below will go with them.
