What am I doing wrong - Slide Master footers not showing

I'm having huge frustrations with the Slide Master, and hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I have a presentation, and I wanted to include my name in the footer field, along with the date and the slide number. I've already used Slide Master to include my company logo.

I updated the master slides I want to have the information (I'm not applying to all, so have done it on the individual slide layouts rather than the Theme Slide Master.

I then went back into the active presentation - nothing had appeared automatically, so following other help requests on this forum, I selected Insert > Header/Footer, selected Footer, and ticked Apply to all. Nothing happened.

I went back into my Slide Master, and my name had been deleted from *all* of the footers I'd added it to. I painstakingly added it back in, saved before exiting Slide Master, and then went back in, and my name had disappeared again!

Note - as per the master, I'd be expecting this to include the whole sets of footer from the Master Slide - if I select the date/slide number options, it overrides the different layouts I have for some of my more complex slides, so it isn't taking that detail from the Master.

Thank you John. OK - let me rephrase my question - how do I get PowerPoint to pick up the footer changes I may make in my Slide Master? Particularly where I may want to have the footer in different layouts depending on the slide type, so Apply to all when I'm in the main presentation won't take into account those layout changes.

For example, I may want to move my name and logo to the left or right hand side, rather than it being in the central position. Or, as I've been trying to do, have my name offset so it is next to the logo rather than across it - I can do that in the Slide Master because I can see the number of tabs I need to put in. In the Footer pane I can't even *use* tab because it just takes me to the next box.

Is there something I have to do IN Slide Master that hasn't been explained?

Or is that just not possible? If I have to play with text boxes as per Steve's original suggestion, I will, but it seems to be such a cumbersome and clumsy way of doing it (particularly given how difficult it is to get text boxes to line up nicely so they are the same for each slide type!), when I was told that Slide Master was the way of being able to set something up once and it would automatically change across all slides of that type in the active presentation.

Steve gave you the answer. Yes, you are checking the checkbox beside Footer in the Header and Footer dialog, but you left the Footer field blank. Instead, enter your name in the Footer field in the dialog, then click on Apply to All.

OK - I'm confused. When people have said they have added footers to their Master slide, but they weren't showing up, they were told to tick the Footer box on the main slides and they'd apply across.

How do I get the information that is on my Master Slides to actually apply to the main slides? I thought the point of using Master was to make it easier to use PPT itself and apply information automatically. Was I misinformed?

You've put a check next to the footer but left the footer text blank.

You might be better off just adding a text box and your image to the master and any layouts that need it. PowerPoint's footers/page numbers/dates are goofy (some might say broken).

And the third screenshot because the forum won't let me add three into one question box:

Going back into the Slide Master to see my name has disappeared again...

So - I want to know:

    1. How to edit the Slide Master so my name appears in the middle box next to my logo
    2. How to have the information from the Slide Master appear in my presentation (i.e. the correct layout for the different layouts of slides I'm creating)
