MS Defender vpn is stopping my internet access on iPhone

I have Defender and use the vpn on my iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Yesterday the iPhone internet stopped - Wi-Fi said I am connected to my router but there is no (or really slow) internet access. I know from my other devices that my internet is fine.

My iPad is fine, connected to defender vpn and internet fine.

I have done a Speedtest on my iPhone and it says my provider is Microsoft Azure - which is not normal (it would usually be my internet provider Virgin Media, which is the case on my iPad).

If I turn off the VPN on my iPhone then the internet is fine - but obviously I’d prefer to have vpn on for security.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Justin

Yes,

go to support.microsoft.com/windows and you will be presented with the following: There are 7 icons: Install/Setup, Drivers & Devices, Network and Internet, Security and Privacy, Troubleshooting and Accessibility.

When you click on these you are presented with the 3 version of windows and a list of topics related to questions being asked. Then click on the topics closest to your query.

Have a great day!

After I connected my iphone to MS DEFENDER, I wasn't aware, until the phone company sent us a text, that I'd used up all our data for the month and we were being issued 1G for $15.00. Two days later, another message, another G, and additional $15.00. We called AT&T. Janelle suggested we shut off our Data Usage while we're home and use only our Wi-Fi. We'd assumed we were on our home wi-fi always, but did what she suggested. My husband's phone (without MS DEFENDER) had not had this loss of internet, as mine had. After we shut off the Data usage on my phone, I could, then, tell, when the Wi-Fi would shut off. I'd need to completely shut down my phone, go into settings, turn off my wi-fi, wait a bit, turn it back on. It was only happening on my phone, not his. We'd check our Speedtest Apps. He had a signal. I had none. Could not figure out why this was happening. Very expensive! Incredibly Frustrating! Then, I decided it might be MS DEFENDER, so I shut Privacy Protection OFF. That solved my problem!

I'm so thankful AT&T sent us those texts and Janelle suggested we shut our Data Usage off while we're home. I'd never have known until that $$$ bill came. MS DEFENDER seems to work fine on our laptop, but not on our iphones. Hope this helps someone.

    Hi Deeksha,

Unfortunately I’ve already tried all your tips - though I confess that I wouldn’t know if settings such as server selection, protocol, and authentication credentials are configured correctly- I just assume that the app sets such settings correctly.

Do you know how I best contact Microsoft support?

    Many thanks

    Justin

Hi, I'm a Microsoft user like you and I will try to help you as best as I can today.

The problem with the internet connection may be caused by a fault unique to the Microsoft Defender VPN setup on your iPhone. You might attempt the following troubleshooting techniques to fix this problem:

Restart the iPhone: Restarting your iPhone can occasionally fix momentary connectivity problems. After turning off your iPhone, give it a brief period of time, and then switch it back on.

Reset VPN Settings: Go to the Microsoft Defender VPN settings in the settings on your iPhone. Try wiping off the current VPN configuration and creating a new one to reset these settings.

Update Defender App: Make sure that you have the latest version of the Microsoft Defender app installed on your iPhone. Updates may contain bug fixes and improvements that could address the issue you're experiencing.

Check VPN Configuration: Review the VPN configuration settings in the Microsoft Defender app on your iPhone. Ensure that all settings are configured correctly, including server selection, protocol, and authentication credentials.

Also, you might want to temporarily disabling any other security or VPN-related apps that you may be running on your iPhone, such as firewall or third-party VPN clients, to see whether they could be interfering with Microsoft Defender VPN.

Try these steps and hopefully, it resolves your issue. If it doesn’t, you might want to contact Microsoft support for further assistance. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best regards Deeksha
