All the functions at the bottom right of a Word document no longer work. What is the problem?

(Display Settings, Focus, the three-page icons, and the zoom function). How can I fix this? Even a new document won't let me use any of them, even though I assured that it is in Vertical mode.

Did you try an Online Repair of Office, as Doug suggested? See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b.

Safe mode, which is a troubleshooting step, may also provide valuable help. Is the Zoom available in that mode? For more, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/open-office-apps-in-safe-mode-on-a-windows-pc-dedf944a-5f4b-4afb-a453-528af4f7ac72.

Note that after Word has started in Safe mode, you will have to create a blank document and you are usually also prompted to choose a default file type (choose the Office XML type).

The "Quick Repair" that was suggested is a useless exercise and it is the On-Line Repair that you should try.

Is Word running in Safe Mode

Many features are disabled in that Mode

    Hello,

It seems like you've thoroughly explored common troubleshooting methods without success. Given that other features in Word are functioning correctly and only the options at the bottom right are unresponsive, we might be dealing with a very specific issue, potentially a glitch or a bug in the interface.

At this stage, considering the unique nature of your issue, the most effective course of action would be to reach out directly to Microsoft's technical support. Their team can offer more advanced troubleshooting steps, which might include deeper system checks or even bug reporting if necessary. As Unfortunately, I don't have any further troubleshooting to offer.

What I can do is help you set a call back with microsoft:

In order to schedule a call back from Microsoft Windows support team, we need to use the native Help app. If you’re not sure how to use the app, complete the given below directions to schedule a call back from Microsoft right from your Windows desktop.

Step 1: In the Start or taskbar search box, type GetHelp, and then press Enter key to launch Help app.

Enter a short summary of the product and assistance you require It will then present you with a list of support documents that may be helpful in resolving the issue.

If none of these are appropriate select the blue contact support button at the bottom of the screen

Select the product or service your question relates to

Select the Category of the question from the list presented or the nearest if no option is correct.

    Select Confirm

On the next screen you will be presented with the available support options for your locale.

    Chat is the default method

If your local support centre is still in operational hours for the category of question then you will be able to select the call back by selection the option of providing phone number for call back.

    After selecting this

Select your country and enter the phone number you would like to receive the call back on.

In Word, go to the View tab and make sure that you activate the Vertical option in the Page Movement group. Doing that would re-enable the options for Zoom and the other options you mention.

Activating Vertical will de-activate Side To Side (also in the Page Movement group). The purpose of the latter option is unclear. It does let you turn the page in Word in much the same way as you would turn the page in a book.
