Fixed: Refinitiv stock data not picking up new tickers (symbols) from major US exchanges

Here are four tickers that started trading on major US exchanges in January 2024 that are not yet available in the data. I can't find anything on the "expected" delay for new tickers. Refinitiv refuses to answer support questions for Excel stock data type, they only answer for their own commercial product customers.

XNAS:AVBP

XNAS:CGON

XNYS:MFAN

BATS:FBTC (several other FBTC entries appear for example from the German Borse, but not the CBOE/BZX "BATS" entry)

April 20 2024 I had a 90 minute chat session with Microsoft support (which should have been less than 5 minutes) and they finally admitted that there was a problem, that the problem was not my local installation of Excel (since it happens on Office 365 on the web and it happened for the support analyst too, but boy was he stubborn) and a "ticket" was opened. Of course that ticket number doesn't actually seem to exist in any Microsoft support system. Regardless, it must have gotten somebody annoyed enough to actually fix the problem and now as of the 23rd, magically the tickers are resolving after they have been trading for over 3 months. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

FYI Google Sheets recognizes "new symbols" but Refinitiv doesn't. Please consider an alternative source for your stock data. Love the feature but cannot use it when Refinitiv doesn't recognize securities that have been trading for months. I use the Feedback feature but it doesn't help. Complaining here instead. Thanks!

    Hello Vince.

As of April 2, 2024 General Electric (GE) just spunoff their energy division to establish a new public company: GE Vernova (GEV) new stock symbol. I, too, have been using Refinitiv stock data in a table using Microsoft Excel for Mac version: 16.83. So far, I haven't struck gold to make the connection on my spreadsheet. Do you happen to have a link with the Refinitiv Community so I can reach out to them for some answers?

    Much appreciated,

    Stu B.

Sadly no, Refinitiv won't help you (I've tried) because you don't own one of their product directly. I tried at the Microsoft Excel community link and nobody has any idea there either. My tickers went live on the NYSE in January so they aren't obscure and they are 90 days old now.

    Hello! BradStauf

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

I understand your frustration with Refinitiv’s stock data not picking up new tickers from major US exchanges. Allow me to ask:

    • What version and edition of Office do you have installed in your device? Example: Personal/Family/Enterprise?
      • You can open any Office apps
      • Go to File > Accounts - on the right side you can see Product Information
    • Is this happening to other files? or just specific file?
    • What error message are you getting?
    • Is this happening to other networks, and devices?

Unfortunately, the delay in adding new tickers can be quite unpredictable, and it seems Refinitiv’s support for Excel stock data types is limited.

Here are the tickers you mentioned:

    1. XNAS:AVBP
    2. XNAS:CGON
    3. XNYS:MFAN
    4. BATS:FBTC

While I don’t have direct control over Refinitiv’s data, I recommend a few steps you can take:

    1. Patience: Sometimes it takes a while for new tickers to be added to data providers’ databases. Keep an eye out for updates.
    2. Alternative Data Sources: Consider using other data sources or APIs that provide real-time stock data. Yahoo Finance, Alpha Vantage, and other platforms might have better coverage.
    3. Manual Entry: If you urgently need data for these tickers, you could manually input the information into your spreadsheet until Refinitiv catches up.

Remember that stock data availability can vary across different services, and it’s frustrating when essential tickers are missing. Hopefully, Refinitiv will address this issue soon.

For more detailed information, you might want to explore other community forums or reach out to Refinitiv directly. Keep an eye on their official announcements for any updates regarding new ticker support.

We will also leave the thread open for any volunteer moderators to join in and share their opinion/suggestions to help you with your concern.

If you need further assistance or have any other questions, feel free to ask!

    Thank you,

    Vince

    Hello Vince -

Thank you for addressing the ongoing issue regarding the Stocks Data function initially reported by BradStauf, then echoed by multiple Excel users.

Like Stu Becker1, I am also affected by the recent GE split, as the new GEV ticker remains unavailable in our database.

There must be a service agreement in place between Microsoft and Refinitiv, that clearly states the contractual timeline for updates to the ticker database. Can you please share what it is?

Understanding this would help manage expectations regarding the visibility of the GEV (or other new) tickers in the Excel Stocks function.

I appreciate your assistance on this matter.

    Best regards,

    Gwenael
