Ok so I have laptop and OS Windows 11 and I download some .doxs documents and I want them to open in Microsoft 365 but they open in WordPad instead. How to change it so it can be open in Microsoft 365 on default (I have the free version)

I tried in properties didn't find it there. I tried to find it in "open from aplications in PC" didn't find it. I tried it in setting "Apps>Default apps"but it was on default on WordPad tried to change it, nothing happened. Tried it by running command app wizard.cpl Microsoft 365 wasn't there.

If anyone knows how to change it I'd be grateful. Thanks for your time.

The simplest method I've found that seems to usually work is to do a "quick repair" of Office.

Hi, I am a Microsoft user just like yourself and I will try my best to help you as much as I can today.

Right-click a DOCX File: Find a .docx file in your file explorer. Right-click on it and select 'Open with' > 'Choose another app'. Select Microsoft 365 Word: In the list of applications, look for Microsoft Word (it might not explicitly say 'Microsoft 365', but just 'Word'). If you don’t see Word listed right away, you might need to select 'More apps' to find it. Make sure the checkbox for 'Always use this app to open .docx files' is checked.

Choose Word and Confirm: After selecting Word, click 'OK'. This should set Word as the default application for opening DOCX files. If Microsoft Word is not listed in the 'Open with' menu:

It could be an indication that your installation of Microsoft 365 might not be complete or is experiencing issues. You may need to repair or reinstall Microsoft 365. To Repair Office from the Control Panel: Open the Control Panel (you can search for it in the Windows Start menu).

Click on 'Programs' > 'Programs and Features'. Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office in the list, select it, and then click on 'Change' at the top of the list.

Choose 'Quick Repair' and then 'Repair'. If that doesn't work, try 'Online Repair'. If repairing doesn't help, consider Reinstalling Microsoft 365:

Uninstall it first from 'Programs and Features' in the Control Panel. Then, reinstall it by downloading the latest version from the Microsoft 365 website.

See if that helps! Please let us know if you have any questions. Microsoft Support is available for further assistance if the issue continues.

    Best regards Deeksha
