Why did onedrive overwrite the excel spreadsheet I've been updating daily with one from months ago and how do I keep this from happening again?

For no reason that I can understand, Onedrive has overwritten the excel file I've been using nearly daily with one from February. I've lost all kinds of info, much of which I won't be able to get back and will need to recreate. #%&@! Is there a way to get this back? If not, how do I keep it from happening again. This is so very very far from ok.

I've checked version history, both from the excel page and online, but there's nothing after February 26 and nothing in my recycle bin.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I restored to yesterday, but it's still giving me the Feb. 26 document and only showing versions older than that. Then I restored to last week and it's the same thing.

Dief36200, I understand that the previous solutions haven't recovered your recent edits. This is definitely frustrating, and I apologize for the continued trouble.

If none of the suggested solutions work, the file may have been overwritten and the latest edited contents might not be recoverable. However, you can get in touch with the Microsoft support advocate and check if they provide any alternate solutions to recover the files.

    Hello Dief36200,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. My name is Gunasekar and I'm happy to help.

I understand you lost recent changes in your Excel workbook due to an older version syncing through OneDrive. By default, Excel automatically saves a temporary version of your file (even if it’s unsaved) every 10 minutes.

There might be a temporary glitch with OneDrive's syncing process.

    1. Did you check the latest version of the file Online?

    a. Go to office.com using your browser. b. Select Excel. c. Select the file which is reverted. d. Check if you can see your recent edits there.

    1. If you’ve saved the file -

Open the file you were working on.

    a. Go to File > Info. b. Under Manage Workbook or Manage Presentation, select the file labeled (when I closed without saving). c. In the bar at the top of the file, select Restore to overwrite any previously saved versions.

    1. Next, check the file in OneDrive Online.

    Onedrive Online.

    1. Go to www.onedrive.com/ and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    2. Check or download the files to the desktop and option it.

Restore OneDrive to earlier versions -

To prevent this happening again in future, Make sure AutoSave is enabled in Excel and regularly back up your important files to a separate location on your computer or external storage.
