Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hi Debbie,
Please disregard Linn's reply. It is factually incorrect and the advice to follow is wrong.
If you are using a current version of Mac OS, the version of Office you should have is 16.78.3. To find out what is currently installed, go to the Applications folder, then right-click on Microsoft Excel.app. Choose Get Info from the menu. That panel shows the version number near the top. I'm using the latest beta version 16.86, but yours should say 16.78.3
If your version is 16.78.3 you don't need to do anything at all. You can delete AutoUpdate. You’ll find it in the MAU2.0 folder which should be located in:
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0
If your version is lower than 16.78.3 then do the following to get the latest AutoUpdate, which will then install the 16.78.3 update: Download a copy of the current version of AutoUpdate from this link, install and then run AutoUpdate to bring your installation to current update level, then restart your Mac. If the updater does not open automatically after download, double-click the downloaded .pkg file. Click this link to download the updater. The update is free.

If your version is higher than 16.78.3 then you have to completely remove what you currently have installed, after which you should use the 16.78.3 installer:
Uninstall Office for Mac - Microsoft Support
Install 16.78.3: Office suite (with Teams)
