How do I embed a file in a word document?

I need to embed some reference documents (excel spreadsheets) into a word document (test report), I can't find how to embed these documents as the object button is missing from the insert ribbon bar.

I am using word web as my OS is Ubuntu 22.04 there is no desktop app available, so please don't ask me to use the desktop app unless you can provide a link to the Linux version of the desktop app.

inserting a link is not an option as the document needs to be sent to external parties.

    The answer to your first two questions is almost certainly No.

    If you want\need the full capability of the Word application, you will need to use the Windows version.

    Thanks for the reply,

    However Microsoft is touting word for web as the alternative for people who use Linux and Chrome OS, as many organisations get the impression that there is no difference so require all users (even Windows and Mac) to use the web version.

    Microsoft probably needs to do a better job of ensuring organisations are aware that the web version is crippled.

    Is the plan to make the web version the full version?

    Is the plan to make a desktop version for Linux?

    If not what is the plan for Linux and Chrome OS users?

    I understand your concern and to my knowledge, I am sorry to convey that the Inserting Objects into the Word document is not supported in the Word for the web, where Word app in the browser has limited features when compared with the Word app on the desktop.
