Can't change the date formatting

I'm trying to make the entire date column the same long-date format, but only the ones on the right are changing. The short dates on the left seem to be locked or something, they won't change when I CTRL1 and change the format there either. Any ideas? I need the dates to all be the same for date-range type for some conditiona formatting and without it I can't. Thanks in advance!

You may try Selecting that column, text to column>Next>Next>Choose date >MDY. It will convert text to date value. Then format will work on it.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, after following the steps nothing changed when I pressed finish and selected Long Date for the column. If I click on one of the locked date entries for example, the type shows as "date" in the drop-down and no matter what I pick, they do not change. Any ideas?

Could you share a test file? Copy that column to a new file.
