Planner and Project Integration

We are currently using MS Planner to track tasks/progress with one of our projects. This has worked well but because we have multiple projects that pull on the same staff resources we require a way to view different project tasks in a gantt/timeline view. This will enable us to effectively schedule work/tasks when staff are available. It seems that a lot of these features are available with MS Project for the Web so we have purchased one licence. I can see that you can create the different projects and view them on a roadmap, however I am not the project manager for all of these so I would like each PM or staff member to update their own projects. Is this possible? It seems like they also need a licence to be able to use MS Project? Additionally, how do we import the existing planner plan into MS Project for the Web?

We would also like to be able to see staff availability when planning these projects, can this be incorporated?

Summary:

I need MS Project functionality of timelines to help with scheduling of different projects (programme/portfolio view)

The PMs just need MS Planner functionality to be able to update their projects

We want to incorporate annual leave into the staff availability to assist with scheduling

Fathia, when I open MS Project for the Web and click on New Project, it does not give me the option to import from Planner. Only .mpp from the project desktop is allowed. What am I missing? I have 365 Planner and Project for the Web. Thanks.

    All --

Well, leave it up to Microsoft to release a nice new feature and then not TELL ANYONE ABOUT IT! GRRR. I just tested the new feature and it works fine. Once the project is imported from Planner, the system defaults to the Timeline view. All the data is there. Keep in mind that this feature is a one-way trip from a Planner project to a Project for the Web project, and that there is no two-way communication between the two projects after the import is completed. Hope this helps.

agreed, this software is shiny and flashy, but is truly garbage when it comes to useful features. Unbelievable that such a large company can get away with such **** software.
