Good Day !

when checking the build number for all office 365 apps on the following locations, i get:

Control Panel > Programs and Features => Current Channel version of 16026.20146

Settings > Apps and Features => Current Channel version of 16026.20146

Word > File >Account > About Word => Current Channel version of 16026.20002

office version

troubleshooting done:

  • clean reinstallation: deleting office registry keys under current user & local machine + office cache folders in app data
  • installing the officesetup.exe from portal.office.com
  • sara tool.
  • removed old office installation's key's from registry.

we assumed that the number is stuck on a registry key, after a search we found it under C2RSvcMg key

"Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\C2RSvcMgr"

as mentioned before, after the clean reinstallation, before we start the apps we checked and there was nothing there, after the activation we refreshed and the key was added with the same value.

Questions:

why is the activation process is pushing the key there with a beta build number ?

does this affect's the protocol that third party apps uses to interact with word ?

is this going to cause an issue to prevent future updates ?

what's the role for C2RSvcMgr key?

please advise!

    Hi @Ayoub.M

    Welcome to Q&A forum ~

Please don't worry, as the version of 16026.20002 via Word > File >Account > About Word is not the true version number of Microsoft 365 Apps, it is a MSO version.

To check the version number for Office that using C2R installation technology, such as Microsoft 365 Apps, you can go to one Office app > Account > Product Information. Or as you have tried, via Control Panel > Programs and Features.

You can also refer to thread 'Need specific Microsoft 365 Download'.

thank you @Emily Hua-MSFT for your update.

unfortunately, the beta build number does affect the interaction between word and a 3rd party app that uses word programmatically.

i don't know what forces the build number in that registry key to be beta build?

note please that this happens only after the activation using M365 licensed account.

    please advise...
