I have had a Word document created on my Macbook in the Word client.

I moved the file to iCloud to make final edits on my iPhone. After making the edits, I recall getting a message stating, "your organisation is now protecting your file." Ever since, I have not been able to access the file. I get the following messages:

When I choose "yes", I am confronted with the following message

Downloading the file to my MacBook again and trying to open it from my Windows on Parallels won't solve the issue. I hope there is a way to recover the file since I have spent much time working on it.

iCloud is not a supported cloud location for editing Office files. It's safe for storing and transferring files, but can corrupt them if you edit them, as you have discovered. Instead, please use OneDrive. Unfortunately, your old file is hosed and you'll have to start over.

I guess I figured that out the hard way. The weird thing is that I had two documents, both edited from my iPhone. One document is still intact, and the other is entirely unusable. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

    Dear IhabKhiri,

Good day. Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community, and we are happy to help you.

As per your description, when you move the file to iCloud and it can’t be opened anymore, even though you download it, and it still has the issue. And it gives you an error massage.

According to my research result about the error message you provided, it seems to be a problem related Microsoft Intune.

To narrow down the issue and assist you further, could you provide me the following information?

    1. Please contact your admin and confirm whether they start the protection policy.
    2. Please check if other files saved in iCloud have the same error massage.
    3. Ask your colleague and confirm if they have the same issue.

Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Claire | Microsoft Community Moderator
