- Create a Group Policy Object, go to Computer Configuration > Policy > Windows Settings > Security Settings > File System
- Right click and add %userprofile%\Desktop ....etc for the different folders that you want to restrict access to.
- Specify the rights for the specified folder(s) for users or user groups.
allow user to save on desktop only some type of files (links)
Hallo forum users!
Windows domain environment with AD - PCs windows 10 and 11:
Is there a way to allow user to save only some files (only links) on their desktop?
Director ask me to deny user to save files on their desktop. He wants that users could save on desktop only links to shared folders on file server.
Is it possible via GPO or other ways? I can see I can deny saving everything on desktop via GPO, but he wants that they could save only links.
Thank you
Marco

2023-02-14T09:34:07+00:00 Thank you S. Sengupta for your reply, but my goal is not to block the entire deskop. Users could save on desktop only links to existing share folders on server. (.lnk extension)
They should not create folders, and save files like word, excel, pdf and so on.
Thank you
