In Excel, my cursor is an error and I cannot get it to pull down formulas. I have checked the settings and everything is how it should be.

The Enable fill handle is checked - so not that. I have check, unchecked, restarted laptop, closed excel, re-opened, saved, new table, brand new spreadsheet,f numbers trying to drag - nothing.

The find & select, select object is not a box to check or uncheck. However, it does appear to be the arrow similar to the symbol in the Select Objects. It appears that this 'option' is stuck without an option to remove or disable.

    Any other suggestions?

    Hi Michelle Ebbert,

    Thanks for visiting Microsoft Community.

It seems that while using Excel, you've encountered an issue where the cursor has changed to an arrow and you're unable to operate on cells to drag formulas down. This issue likely stems from an option in Excel that's been checked: Home > Find & Select > Select Object. Please refer to the following instructions:

    • Go to the Home tab.
    • In the Editing group, click on "Find & Select."
    • Look for "Select Object" and see if it is checked.

If "Select Object" is checked, please uncheck it.

If the problem persists after doing this, please let me know, and we can explore further solutions.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Michelle Ebbert,

Just as Tejas_shah_76 kindly mentioned, if your mouse cursor appears as a hollow cross and you can select cells normally but are unable to drag to apply formulas, you can follow the steps in his response to check that option.

If your mouse cursor looks like an arrow and you are unable to select cells, you can refer to the steps in my reply.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Best Regards,
