We are reaching out to inquire about the usage of MS Office Viewer, which we currently embed through iframes for the previewing of resumes of formats doc, docx, and rtf within our application.

The URL we are using for this purpose is: 'https://view.officeapps.live.com/op/embed.aspx?src='+<presignedURL>.

It's crucial for us to understand the potential limitations and terms of usage associated with utilizing MS Office Viewer in a commercial setting.

Could you kindly provide us with information regarding the following:

  1. Microsoft Subscription Requirement: Is a Microsoft subscription necessary for utilizing MS Office Viewer within our commercial application? We aim to ensure compliance with all relevant licensing agreements and subscription requirements.
  2. Limitations and Terms of Usage: We would appreciate insights into any limitations or terms of usage specific to using MS Office Viewer within a commercial application.
  3. Legal Formalities: What legal formalities, if any, are required for the commercial use of MS Office Viewer? Are there any licensing agreements or permissions we need to adhere to?
  4. Discontinuation of Service: Is there a possibility of the service being discontinued in the foreseeable future? Understanding this would help us assess the long-term viability of our current implementation.
  5. Load Issues: Are there any known load issues or performance concerns that we should be aware of when using MS Office Viewer within our application?
  6. Support and Maintenance: In addition to licensing requirements, we are interested in learning about the support and maintenance options available for applications utilizing MS Office Viewer. Can we access support resources if needed?
  7. User Subscription Requirement: Do users accessing our application need to have a Microsoft subscription to utilize the features enabled by MS Office Viewer? Given that our user base may consist of individuals who do not possess Microsoft subscriptions, we want to ensure a seamless user experience for all.

Your insights on these matters would greatly assist us in making informed decisions regarding the integration of MS Office Viewer into our application. We value your expertise and look forward to your response.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

  4. Discontinuation of Service: As described in this support article Supported versions of the Office viewers - Microsoft Support Microsoft recently discontinued the older versions of Office viewers. Microsoft will not provide hotfix, service pack, or security update support for these products.
  5. Load Issues: There are no known load issues or performance concerns specific to using MS Office Viewer within an application. However, the performance may depend on the size and complexity of the documents being viewed.
  6. Support and Maintenance: Microsoft does not provide support or maintenance for MS Office Viewer as it is a free tool.
