I am beyond frustrated with microsoft forcing everyone to use One Drive. How do I save changes I've made to both my hard drive and my PC? Word will not allow me to save changes I've made to my document on my PC because I saved it to OneSrive first. Now the only place updates are made is to the dawn cloud. If I want to save the update to my PC it only saves it as a new document (instead od adding on to it) or a copy and now I have multiple copies of the same thing. I don't always like working online sometimes I like to work.offline save it to my PC and then have another copy in the cloud when I'm done. I might be missing something, but forcing people tonuse the stupid cloud is dumb when we do t always have interest access and don't want to always have to m log in to dumb microsoft in order to type on my own computer. Is there a way to do save on the PC and Cloud without losing information or having to recreate the work I've just done?

Dear Renee H,
I understand your frustration with integrating OneDrive in Microsoft Word. Here’s a way to manage your documents so you can save them both to your PC and to the cloud without creating multiple copies or losing data.
Steps to Save Changes to Both PC and OneDrive
Method 1: Use "Save As" to Keep Both Local and Cloud Versions Updated
- Open your Word document saved on OneDrive.
- Go to File -> Save As.
- Choose This PC and select a location on your hard drive.
- Save the document with the same name as the one on OneDrive.
- Make any necessary changes to the document.
- Save your changes normally (Ctrl + S).
- This will save the changes to the local version first.
- After saving locally, go to File -> Save As again.
- Select OneDrive and save the document with the same name.
- Confirm to replace the existing file on OneDrive.
By doing this, you ensure that both versions (local and cloud) are updated with the latest changes.
Method 2: Use OneDrive Sync Folder
- Ensure OneDrive is set up on your PC and synced with your local folders.
- By default, OneDrive creates a folder in your user directory (e.g., C:\Users[Your Username]\OneDrive).
- Save your Word document within the OneDrive folder on your PC.
- This allows OneDrive to automatically sync changes between your PC and the cloud.
- You can work offline on your document saved in the OneDrive folder.
- OneDrive will sync changes once you are back online.
Method 3: Manual Copying
- Open the local version of your document.
- Make changes to your document as needed.
- When you are back online, open the version on OneDrive.
- Copy and paste the changes from your local document to the cloud document.
- Save both the local and cloud versions to ensure they are identical.
Tips to Avoid Multiple Copies:
Adjust OneDrive Settings:
If you prefer to work offline more often, you can adjust OneDrive settings to avoid constant prompts:
- Right-click the OneDrive icon in the system tray.
- Select Pause syncing for a specific duration.
- Choose which folders to sync with OneDrive by right-clicking the OneDrive icon, selecting Settings, then the Account tab, and clicking Choose folders.
These methods should help you manage your documents more effectively, allowing you to work both offline and online without the hassle of maintaining multiple copies. Let me know if you need further assistance!
Best regards,
Yuki
