How do I add One Drive storage to my kid's account under the Microsoft Family program?

I want to add the Microsoft Basic 365 to my daughter's account. When I select this option from her Microsoft account it says :-

'You need to be older to buy this

Ask an adult to help you make this purchase'.

We are part of a family sharing but I do not want the 365 Family as we do not need all the other apps etc and it only my daughter that needs more storage, so the Basic 365 plan works out cheaper and it is all that we need.

How do I add the Basic plan to my daughter's account only (or do a workaround to get rid of the error message which is coming up)? Or is the only option to buy the more expensive 365 Family with all the stuff we do not need just so I can get more storage for my daughter?

Thanks

Hello gottaproblem365, Welcome to Microsoft Community. I realize that you want to buy Microsoft Basic 365 for daughter's account, but you failed. You and your daughter are parts of a family group. You don' t have and don't want to have a Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

I understand how you feel. Please feel free to correct me if my understanding is wrong.

I would like to notify thatyou need to go into your parent account and locate your child's account. There you need to turn off the option that says "Require approval for every purchase" Once that is turned off, the child should be able to purchase extra OneDrive space.

Hers is how to do it:

  1. Sign in Microsoft Family Safety with your account.
  2. Find your daughter's tab and click.
  3. Click Spending.
  4. Turn off Require approval for every purchase toggle.
  5. Try adding Microsoft Basic 365 to your daughter's account again. I hope my answer helps you. Please let me know if the result fit your expectation. I'm looking forward to your reply.Best wishes,Lucia Wu - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
