SharePoint list default value for today's date not loading today's date

Hi,

When creating a new item in a SharePoint form, a date field is supposed to default to today's date and it was working properly until a couple of days ago.

I've checked the regional settings, tried to use a calculated default value, created a new column, etc, but nothing is working and the date field remains blank and has to be manually entered.

Is this caused by an update to SP or something else and how can I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

We also encountered this problem just recently with a customer of ours.

Didn't know exactly the time it started, but we just where informed of the issue.

After reading some posts on the internet, with some possible solutions, nothing seemed to work,
Created a ticket via our partner portal with Microsoft.

After some e-mail back and forth, a support employee watched what was going on.

Basically what was the error on our side (and site):
We had our Time Zone setting on: UTC +1 (Amsterdam) time,
    With a Dutch Regional Layout.

Changing the Time Zone to: UTC -8 Pacific (US and Canada)

Made the field work as expected. (Had to Force Reload browser in the list ctrl+F5)

Keeping this setting and it works, changing it back and it stops working.
This will mean every date will be off by 9 hours in our case, dropping a 'day' on our current fields..

No Full solution yet, just got of the phone..

    Hi George,

Thank you for the quick reply and assistance, I tried using the workaround you gave but it's not working, so I'll go to our IT's to check with them.

    Have a good one!

    Hi Radoslava,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

For "the date field remains blank and has to be manually entered", I can suddenly reproduce the same situation. It is likely caused by the server. In this case, I suggest you report the problem to your tenant admin or IT team and ask them to raise a support ticket via Microsoft 365 Admin Center> Support> New service request. The support team there has the correct channel and resources to help you investigate more and find what exactly the reason has caused this situation at the backend.

Additionally, as a temporary workaround, I suggest you use a Calculated column to display Today's date. Go to the list, Settings, List settings, under the Columns section, click Create column. Choose the column type "Calculated". In the Formula part, enter the formula =Today(), choose the data type "Date and Time", and then click OK.

Sorry for the inconvenience that happened to you. Appreciate your understanding and patience.

    Sincerely,

We have lost this functionality as well in our lists and it is absolutely affecting us too. We noticed it on 5/29/2024 (yesterday) - this is such a bummer and would love this functionality back ASAP!

This has stopped working for lists I use as well :(. It increases the time taken to fill forms and is detrimental to our workflow.
