Dear All,

I want to insert Table of Contents like this:

  1. Introduction...........................1-20

2.Background..............................21-40

etc.

How can I do that? Your suggestion and feedback will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,
Indra

There is no built-in way to do this, and it is not a conventional TOC, which gives only the starting page for each entry, the previous chapter or section assumed to have finished before the next one starts.

If you need information on how to insert a conventional TOC, see https://shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/tableofcontents.html

You can find additional information on TOCs at http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/TOCTips.htm

At the moment, this can only be done manually with bookmarks and cross-references. It would be a nightmare to maintain, especially if the document is long, with many headings.

Or create a TOC in the usual way and then unlink it and edit it (so that you can add the ending page number in each page number interval manually).

This is not a common request, but you can make a suggestion to Microsoft using Help | Feedback. That is the only way to propose your idea to someone who can actually make it happen.

    Dear Suzanne,

Thank you for reply. It is obvious for sometime, Can we rectify using Field Code? So, if you (Microsoft) add that option in Word upcoming version would be great. Thank you.

    Regards,

    Indra
