I want to create a new To Do task from an email message, how ?

In classic outlook I could put a custom flag on an email and put a reminder date with a note. New outlook I can flag it and add a date without a note to remind me to do something. It'd be nice in the new outlook to right-click on an email and have the option to create a To Do task and have a place to add a note. Anyone know if this is possible?

Thank you,

This used to be an excellent feature and wish it was still available. From within an email, create a to-do task. You can create a meeting from an email, but not a to-do task. Please return this functionality

    Hi Ashraf,

Was there ever any update to this? Our employer forced the switch to "New" Outlook and I've lost a lot of functionality I had on the previous version.

    Thanks,

I liked this feature in classic too. I am trying to do the same thing. Here's what worked for me: Go into Quick Steps and define making a task. Then you can select this quick action and it shows up in To do as an action.

    I found 2 options:

    1. the above mentioned that you Go into Quick Steps and define making a task
    2. you can also Flagg the email and it will show in Flagged Email section in the TO DO app. From there you can do your usual work in the TO DO

    Hello Scott,

Greetings. Hope this finds you well.

According to your description, I really understand that you are referring to difference in the current feature in New Outlook preview and the classic outlook. And based on my research, I got the same result as yours, I didn't find a way around this in the new outlook especially adding a note to the task. Currently in the new outlook, you can only use the My Day pane to create a task from an email message. (Open the My Day pane by selecting My Day iconMy Day on the toolbar at the top of the page >To do >Find the message that you want to create a task from in the message list >Select and drag the message to the To Do tab in the My Day pane).

I do understand your need for this, and we will surely raise your concerns with our product team and hopefully this can be included in future updates. If you heavily rely on this feature, you may consider toggling out of the new Outlook for Windows preview for now.

Please kindly understand that many functions are not designed at present. I'd suggest creating an entry as a feature suggestion in feedback collection directly through your new outlook (Help-->Feedback) or at Outlook · Community (microsoft.com) and many other users could vote for it. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback.

I will update here just in case I get any update on this.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Ashraf.
