Formatting phone numbers in Microsoft Forms.

Solutions are offered in the Community but they are almost 10 years old and mean the use of software versions no longer available. Do I need to tear apart my microsoft form and somehow run it through a power automate flow for the ability to use an expression? Just want the user to be forced into a format llike this: (***) ***-****. Don't want to have to revert to spreadsheets either. Any ideas out there?

    Dear Doug Greene,

Greetings! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, it seems that you are trying to force users to fill in the form with the format (***) ***-**** in Microsoft Form.

If the understanding above is right, as per the search and test on our side, we're afraid that there's no out of box way to achieve this in Microsoft Forms currently.

Given this, we'd recommend you add a subtitle under the question to determine the format of the phone numbers in the form and use Power Automate to manipulate the number into a desired format using an Expression as a workaround as you have mentioned.

Personally, we completely agree with you, this is indeed a good addition to the current features of Microsoft Forms. It would be definitely ideal if we could set the format in Restrictions as per our need for the questions in Microsoft Forms. Given this, we'd sincerely recommend you share your valuable feedback in Microsoft Forms Feedback Community. You can also choose to use the feedback button in MS Forms for restrictions directly as shown below:

Please also consider voting for the similar requests that we've found in the feedback site. The Product Team is in-charge of the feedback site, and they are constantly checking the comments and feedback from our customer. Many features have been developed or improved based on users' comment.

For your reference: Field "Restrictions" needs improvement · Community (microsoft.com)

Allow Numbers and Restrictions with leading zero(s) · Community (microsoft.com)

Meanwhile, if you want to know more about Power Automate Flow solutions, we'd recommend you post new thread in the dedicated channel Microsoft Power Automate Community - Power Platform Community to get the detailed information about the flow as per your requirement from experts.

Apologies for redirecting you to different community as the members in the category posted focus on the users with the Microsoft 365 concern and have limited knowledge on the Power Automate, so to get the fast and better assistance, we have redirected you in the correct path.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Sincerely,

    Rhoda | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Thank you for your reply.

I can work with that answer. And I am satisfied that I haven't missed something along the way.
I think, in my use case, that it might make sense to add formatting later as needed through power automate expressions, allowing for non-formatted entry on the initial form.

    Very good,

Thanks again for your quick response.

    D
