It's not up to Microsoft to make their software work with every possible cloud service. They developed OneDrive to ensure there would be a cloud service that works properly with Office, which was created long before there was the cloud, or even the internet.

What could work is if Google were to change the way Google Drive works so that Office files can safely be edited on it. DropBox has done that for Office for Windows. Here's the Google Drive support page, where you may be able to make such a suggestion.

When you place files in PowerPoint, by default, they are embedded, not linked. So there is no link to view, no picture name that is stored in the PowerPoint file.

If you must use Google Drive, it's probably better for you to use Google Docs instead of Microsoft Office. They're built to work well together.

Google Drive is not engineered to handle live editing of Office files. The files do not get saved correctly and the images disappear. There are many reports posted here about similar problems with Google Drive, iCloud and other unsupported cloud services.

Instead, please use OneDrive. You'll have to manually reinsert your pictures.

This problem is common with files edited while on unsupported cloud services like iCloud or Google Drive. It also occurs in presentations being edited while on a USB/flash drive. Do either of those apply?

Hello the exact same thing happened to me on the 23rd July.

    How can this happen?

Was there a system glitch with the programme that day or something?

I used google and store evetlrything there so I can edit from any device.

To discover that this is a notmal thing is just extraordinary.

I havr lost a 400 slide presentation made of various edited i.ages that I have been working on for a month.

I use screen capture and copy and pastr so assumed all my images would be embedded into the file.

How have they all just disappeared? Looking at this online this seems to be common.

How on earth is this common?

I have found that in my screenshots folder, all thr files are there and nee versions have been saved that are cropped.

So if images get saved somewhere, where will I find the images I copied and pasted from the web?

I can reconstitute the file it seems, but it will be hours of work.

How do I see the link to an image when in the powerpoint so I can easily reselect the correct one in my screenshots drive?

And how do I set the file so that images I i dert save in the file itself? I never use the i sert image function, so as far as I was aware they were all inthe file.

This really is such a dreadful set-up for this to happen.

I really would appreciate your help.

    Thank you,

    Jon

The first thought that comes to mind is that the pictures were Linked images stored on a separate location but the connection to that location is disrupted. Reestablishing the connection & reopening the file should resolve it.

Otherwise. please provide a more detailed explanation of the circumstances. Be sure to indicate the specific Version Numbers of both Office & macOS.
