How do I open a word document in word when it says something went wrong, try again?

I created a Word document three days ago for my class, and today when I went to open it it gave me a screen that says: " can't open file. Sorry, something went wrong and (file name) can't open." I have tried moving it to a different folder, finding it on a different device, renaming it and nothing is allowing me to open my assignment. I even tried sending it and all it does it send the document name. I don't know what else to do at this point and have no idea why Word will not allow me to open up my Word document.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for your response so quickly!

I have tried everything. I tried uploading it to my personal one drive as well as my school's one drive. I have tried downloading it onto my computer or sending it to someone else to see if that would work. I have also tried just downloading it as a PDF and still nothing. There also isn't an update available.

I will look into how to fix a corrupt file and see if that can work.

Thank you for the tips on trying to get this fixed!

    Dear Tesa Neel

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. I am happy to help you

First, could you please try uploading the file to OneDrive and then open it in the web app to see if it can be opened, which will help me determine if the file is corrupted. You can visit the Office portal, log in to your account and click OneDrive then upload the file.

If the web client can be opened, try downloading the local to see if the file can be opened. If the downloaded file doesn't open either, I recommend checking if there is an update for the Office app in the following app stores, and try updating to the latest version if there is.

If the web terminal cannot be opened, the file may be corrupted. If that's the case, I'm afraid you'll need to fix it from the Windows side:
